Admission process for the Master programme in Choreography
PART 1 - Assessment of entry requirements – Work samples
How: No participation of applicant needed
A selected part of the admission group will make a first assessment of the applicants based on the qualifications/documents/video clips with previous work sent in by the applicant. The admission group will evaluate the level of the applicant’s choreographic work, looking at artistic articulation, method of work, communicability, craftsmanship and previous experiences. In the applicants written text the admission group will evaluate the ability of articulating ideas, expressing thoughts and point of views, and positioning in regard to a chosen topic.
Applicants who qualify from part 1 will be invited to Part 2 – Qualification test. The invitation is sent out mid March.
PART 2 - Qualification test - Workshop and Presentation
How: Takes place via zoom, live participation is needed.
When: The test is planned for March 30-31 and April 1. Participation is only needed for one of these days.
Part 2 of the admission process consists of an online qualification workshop led by members of the teaching staff of Stockholm University of the Arts. This part of the process will be led as an online workshop’s focused on exchanging with other candidates about their work and responding to feedback about one’s own work through creative process. Before this workshop begins you will receive a brief assignment to produce a short work to be submitted on video prior to the virtual meeting. In the qualification test workshop, the admission group will look at:
- the applicant’s ability to engage in a working process out of a given task and how to generate ideas, materials and positions both through choreography and its discourse,
- the applicant’s ability to collaborate and communicate in a group situation, taking into account the limitations of virtual meetings.
- the applicant’s own work is evaluated on the basis of artistic articulation, method of work, communicability and craftsmanship.
As the qualification test will happen online, you will need to assure a functioning internet connection, an apparatus with a working camera and a space you feel comfortable working in.
After part 2, the applicants who pass the qualification test, and thereby meet the entry requirements, proceed to part 3 - Selection.
PART 3 - Selection - Online Workshop and Interview
How: Takes place via zoom, live participation is needed.
When: The workshop is planned for April 4-5. Participation is only needed for one of these days. The interview is planned for April 6.
The third part of the admission process consists of workshops led by members of the teaching staff of the school as well as collaborative tasks and discussions in small virtual groups. An individual interview will also be a part of the process. Through the workshop tasks the admission group will look at the applicant’s ability to engage in a working process out of a given task and how to generate ideas, materials and positions. The assesment criteria are decribed below.
After Part 3 – Selection, the admission group will suggest which applicants are to be admitted and which applicants should be put on the waiting list.
Criteria for assessment of applicants
The assessment of the applicants in the selection test is made by an admission group with qualifications in choreography. The assessment is made on a scale (1-5) where 1 is the lowest assessment and 5 the highest. The interview, however, will not be judged based on the following criteria.
The criteria for the different assessments are:
- The applicant does not demonstrate the requested ability.
- The applicant to some extent demonstrates the requested ability.
- The applicant demonstrates the requested ability.
- The applicant demonstrates well the requested ability.
- The applicant demonstrates very well the requested ability.
