Admission Process Master Programme in Opera - Vocal Performance

ADMISSION PROCESS 

The admission process consists of two selection tests. The singing tests consist of works of your own choice. You should prepare a total of seven pieces according to the following:

  • Six arias from operatic works
  • One song or lied

You may perform one of these pieces in your native language. The others should be performed in the original language.
 

Selection test 1

This first test is assessed from the video and sound recording you have uploaded in your application. No participation of applicant is needed.

Assessment

In making the selection much consideration is given to the programme’s high demands on vocal and performance ability.

The jury committee will decide who continues to Selection test 2. Invitation to Selection 2 will be sent out at around week 11, 2023.
 

Selection test 2

Tuesday, 28 March or Wednesday, 29 March, 2023

Selection test 2 consist of three parts and takes place during one day at SKH, Teknikringen 35, Stockholm.

  • Musical interpretation test. Individual test in front of the jury committee, 15 minutes.

You will work with an aria from your repertoire list with a teacher from the department.

  • Performance/scenic movement test. Individual test in front of the jury committee, 15 minutes.

You will work staging a scene with a director in front of the jury with an aria from your list where we are looking for personal creativity, social skills, the use of body language and artistic expression. Please bring the sheet music for the pianist.

Which arias you will be working with will be decided by the jury and announced in your invitation to Selection 2.

  • Interview, 15 minutes.

In the interview, we ask questions about the project that you formulated in your application. You get an opportunity to clarify your thoughts about the project and its purpose. We want to know more about why you chose your specific project, your issues and how you think the project can develop your art.

Assessment

In making the selection much consideration is given to the programme’s high demands on vocal and performance ability. Also, your ability to reflect on your practice is considered when doing the final assessment.
